CTPPA Publications Editor
The editor is responsible for publishing a minimum of 10 issues each fiscal year of the Connecticut Spotlight. The Connecticut Spotlight is published September to June in order to coincide with the quarterly meetings and two seminars. The Publications Editor reports to the Vice President of Programs & Publicity.
The Editor works in conjunction with the Vice President of Programs & Publicity in acquiring information on the featured speaker for each event. These articles are edited for spelling, grammar and content, and if need be, the Editor will contact the speaker for additional information or photographs. Articles are also expected from all Board Members, Committee Chairs and the general membership. All articles are reviewed for spelling and grammar.
Letters are sent out to solicit advertising. While the bulk of the letters are sent out in June and July prior to the beginning of each new publishing season, request for advertising is done on a regular basis. Any lead for an advertiser is welcome.
Each issue of The Spotlight will feature the speaker for the quarterly meeting or seminar as well as one the convention speakers. The speaker’s portrait and samples of his/her work will accompany the article. The Print Competition Chairman is responsible for sending the latest results of the quarterly competition to the editor, but the Editor will remind the Chair, as well as the President for his/her message. The Editor will send out a notice of deadline approximately three weeks prior to the deadline and again as the deadline approaches.
The Convention Book and Membership List are published in February in order to be ready to deliver to the membership at the Annual Convention which is now held in March. The cover of the convention book is selected from the highest scoring print at the annual competition and in the case of a tie, the Editor will choose between the images that are tied.
The Editor is responsible for working with the Executive Manager to obtain the most up-to-date listing of members and their contact information including e-mail addresses. The Editor is also responsible for soliciting advertising to pay for the convention book and to obtain several quotes from printing companies with the best quality at the lowest price for printing the book.
The Editor requests photographs of each Board Member for inclusion in the convention book as well as all of the CPPA award winning images from the previous convention. The Editor may also include the images accepted at Imaging USA (PPA) for that year as well.
The Editor requests the following for inclusion in the membership directory and convention journal:
- Nominating Committee Report
- Convention Schedule
- List of all Committees and Chairpersons
- Speakers biography, program description and headshot
- Convention Print Judges and headshot
The Editor also updates the following information for history purposes:
- CTPPA Past Presidents
- National Award Winners
- Supplier of the Year Recipient
- Reuben Schaller Award
- Public Service Award
- Abe Treskunoff Award
- CTPPA Fellowship Degree List
- Certified Professional Photographers List
The convention book is prepared in Adobe InDesign and the layout is given to the printer by starting in January to allow for proofing and a finished book by February. The proof is to be shared with the VP of Programs & Publicity before going to print.
